  • Botanical Name: Pteris cretica var albolineata
  • Common Name(s): Albo-lineata, silver ribbon fern, Cretan Brake Fern, Cretan Fern
  • Description: Native to Europe, Asia, and Africa, the Albo fern is the most common variant of the Pteris cretica species, with broad green leaflets and pale centers. Outdoors, the Albo fern can survive year round in subtropical climates such as California. Care is similar, if not easier, than other ferns, requiring indirect sunlight, humidity, and pruning. It can grow up to 1-2.5 feet.

To take care of your Pteris Cretica 'Albo Fern,' here are some tips:

1. Lighting: 'Albo Fern' thrives in bright, indirect light. Place it near a north or east-facing window to provide the right amount of light.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water your 'Albo Fern' when the top inch of the soil feels slightly dry. Avoid overwatering, as it can lead to root rot.

3. Humidity: 'Albo Fern' prefers high humidity levels. You can increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly or placing a tray of water near the plant. Grouping it with other plants can also help create a humid microclimate.

4. Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 60-75°F (15-24°C) for your 'Albo Fern.' Avoid exposing it to cold drafts or extreme temperature fluctuations.

5. Soil: Use well-draining, peat-based potting soil for your 'Albo Fern.' It should retain some moisture but not be waterlogged.

6. Fertilizing: Feed your 'Albo Fern' with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Dilute the fertilizer according to the package instructions.

With proper care and attention, your Pteris Cretica 'Albo Fern' will thrive and add beauty to your space! 🌿😊
