  • Botanical Name: Scindapsus Pictus ‘jade’
  • Common Names: jade satin pothos
  • Description: The jade satin pothos is beloved for its large, thick, heart-shaped leaves and deep green coloring. It can be difficult to find and acquire compared to some of its pothos relatives, and more expensive too. That being said, it is not considered particularly rare and most houseplant shops or nurseries should carry it.

Lighting: Golden Pothos plants, like the Jade Satin variety, thrive in bright, indirect light. Placing them near a window where they can receive filtered sunlight or using artificial grow lights can help maintain their health and vibrant foliage.

Watering: The Pothos Jade Satin plant prefers to be watered when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. It's essential to water it thoroughly but allow excess water to drain away to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot.

Humidity: The Pothos Jade Satin plant doesn't have specific humidity requirements but generally does well in average room humidity levels. If the air is too dry, you can increase humidity by placing a humidifier nearby or using a pebble tray filled with water under the plant.

Soil: The Pothos Jade Satin plant needs a well-draining, peat-based potting mix to thrive. This type of soil helps maintain proper moisture levels for the plant's roots while allowing excess water to drain away easily.

Temperature: The Pothos Jade Satin plant prefers normal room temperatures ranging from 65-85°F (18-29°C). Avoid exposing it to drafts or extreme temperature fluctuations to keep it healthy and happy.

Fertilizer: The Pothos Jade Satin plant benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. You can fertilize it every 2-4 weeks during the growing season to support its growth and keep its foliage lush and vibrant.

Pruning: To prune your Pothos Jade Satin plant, you can trim back any leggy or overgrown stems to encourage bushier growth. Make sure to use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to make clean cuts just above a leaf node. This will help the plant maintain a nice shape and promote new growth.

The Pothos Jade Satin plant is generally resistant to pests, but occasionally it can attract common houseplant pests like spider mites, mealybugs, or aphids. Keeping an eye out for any signs of pests and regularly inspecting the plant can help you catch and treat any infestations early. If you notice any pests, you can gently wipe the leaves with a damp cloth or use insecticidal soap to get rid of them.
